I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Patreon, but it’s a crowd funding site for creators that produce content on a regular basis. It’s similar to Kickstarter, but instead of having a deadline to reach a certain goal, Patreon campaigns are ongoing. You can either donate money per month or per new creation (video, webcomic strip, etc.).
Well we recently launched our own campaign here. We’re hoping that this can help us reach our goals with BlackGuard and BOSC Comics faster. You may remember a time about a year ago when we were pushing out two pages a week AND printing completed issues AND attending comic conventions. It turns out those things took a huge physical and financial toll on us. We ended up burnt out and low on money from about late 2013 to now. For the past few months, we’ve been updating the website less than half as frequently as we used to (as you have probably noticed). We’ve also missed a number of conventions that we used to attend and still have THREE completed issues of BlackGuard that haven’t even been printed yet simply because we can’t afford to.
This is why Will and I started a Patreon campaign. We love working on BlackGuard, and we want to do more with the series so that it can continue to grow. We have so many adventures planned for the team and so many background stories of the individual characters that we want to explore, but we’re limited by our schedules and finances. We’re reaching out to our fans to help BlackGuard and BOSC Comics grow by becoming sponsors. You don’t have to dig deep in your pockets to help. You can do as little as $1/month to be a sponsor. In return, you not only get the reward of helping us to complete BlackGuard story arcs faster, but also a behind-th-scenes look at each new page we post. Of course, higher donations get more exclusive rewards.
For now, we’re starting small. Our current goal is to get ten supporters (or patrons) by the end of the month. The first ten patrons will get a special thank you mention from us. We’re not sure what that will be exactly, but we’ll figure it out. Once again, go here to check out our campaign.
Thanks for your time.
